THE CAMPAIGN

THE CAMPAIGN

  1. the world is dying.

why am i biking against borders?

because being 25 and growing up in this world is a harrowing experience.

earth is warming. ecosystems are dying. large parts of earth are becoming unlivable. an increasing number of people are on the move.

the response? walls.

👇 skip story, how do i give money?

2. our response: (eco)fascism

the fascism within

the so-called “west” totally transformed the planet the past 5 centuries. in its peripheries it obliterated cultures, sucked out wealth and left wastelands in its wake.

walls, visa rules and borders keep this situation in place.

when inhabitants of the periphery claim their rightful access to ‘the west’, it denies them entry. sometimes, it kills them at the borders.

so truthfully, more than the climate crisis itself, it’s our response to it that frightens me. with fascism always being integral to 'western’ civilization, faced with imminent environmental collapse, its face will be ugly.

(I photographed this man attacking our peaceful occupation of the UvA campus, may 2024.
attacks like this are becoming more common: fascists
emboldened by fascist politicians.)

walls & fences

walls & fences 🧱🪖

total length of fences around EU's borders

3. we “protect” ourselves

border protection vs. liveable planet.

7 big western polluters (US, UK, Canada, Germany, Japan, France & Australia) between 2013-2018. Borders receive 2x the amount of money than reducing climate change.

the trend becomes clear: in a world on fire, we currently respond with exclusion: walls, scapegoating, repression.

i refuse!
we don’t have to build more walls.
we can break them down. we can fight back.

against walls. against scapegoating. against repression.

4. but we can respond differently.

FIGHT BORDERS 🔥

FIGHT BORDERS 🔥

5. how? supporting HRDF, MiGreat & NNK.

MiGreat is a Dutch organisation that fights for the freedom to move for everyone. They’ve been active for 5 years, and have around 25 active volunteers. Their political vision is a world without borders, which I find deeply beautiful. With our money, they can continue that fight.

Amongst others, MiGreat:

-Provides direct aid (when government provisions fail) in the Netherlands and abroad.

-Creates public outrage against the increasingly brutal migration policies in the Netherlands and EU (i.e. through stopping deportations & organising demonstrations).

with our money, MiGreat keeps fighting for a free world for everyone. if i can cross all borders, everyone should be able to. will you help MiGreat in that mission?

OR..

No Name Kitchen helps people trying to cross into the E.U. They provide clothes, medical supplies, food, and medical assistance to people who need it at the borders. I visited them in September, and wrote an article about it (👈click). A very impressive activist & grassroots group, who needs funds. They can be sponsored, as well.

🗺️ sponsor me per 100km!

how fun is it for you to sponsor me for every 100km i cycle? the farther i get, the more humane the Netherlands becomes (or something like that). you can sponsor below. with help from my friends at XR we can deduct custom amounts of money each month! so, pledge 2 euros (?) per 100km, and together we’ll make the world a kinder place.

to be clear: i don’t take any money for myself. all the money that you sponsor goes to MiGreat or No Name Kitchen (your choice)
